Before buying book, look at it's quality. I made few times mistake buying one euro books. They don't last and they break instantly. If you have a smaller kid, he or she definetely will try to lick or bite it. You need something that will stand up to almost anything your kid does.

My kid's first word was either (besides the obvious DaDa) "ball" or "cookie". He could SING before he could talk, so that was interesting (he'd sing the whole "Sesame Street" theme and others by saying "ya-ya-ya" rather than the words).
