Do you want to know more about the IS book and the author?

I had a chance to ask him few questions...

How did you come up with idea for the book?

I was sitting on the Beach in Bali talking to a retired school teacher who was saying that she never knew what to write as her status, and my reply was that someone should write a book of facebook statuses... and I did!

Did you use Facebook before writing a book?

Yes, I was backpacking and found it a great way of keeping in contact with other backpackers around the world, as it gave me an idea as to their whereabouts and if we were in the same country we would catch up.

It also allowed me to communicate with a small number of people back home that had facebook accounts at the time.

Did you contact Facebook for help?

No, but I have used their ads recently to get create awareness of the book and the fact that all proceeds go to charity.

What is the most funniest status for you?

Ah so many! Everyday I am laughing out loud at one or two, and every time I flick through the book I end up with a sore stomach due to laughing at some of hilarious status updates contained in it.

Although I would have to admit that the status that sticks out in my mind the most wasn't funny but more poignant and went something like

"is thinking that love should be a game that everyone wins and anyone that cheats should be disqualified"

About the author

Patrick Hamilton Walsh was employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers as a taxation consultant before he set off to fulfill his life-long dream of traversing the world. For two-and-a-half years his travels afforded him the opportunity to experience and enjoy customs and kindness from Iran to Zimbabwe, as he set foot on every continent on earth.

It was during these travels that Patrick saw the potential growth for Facebook, and social networking in general, leading him to come up with the idea for 'is: The Phenomenon of the Facebook Status' before subsequently setting to work on the book.

But how do you write a book while in such far-flung places as Indonesia? As Patrick has never owned a laptop, the majority of the book was researched and collated in the Internet cafes of the world. It wasn't until he arrived in Sydney that the final, magical touches were added to the book before it was sent to the publishers.

It was when he disembarked the boat at Ushuaia, Argentina, following his courageous adventures in Antarctica, he received the news his book had been published and was now widely available to the world. Patrick however, still had to complete a trip taking in the length and breadth of Africa, before he could get his hands on the first copies. The rest, as they say, is history.

A note from Patrick: 100% of the Royalties earned from this book are donated to charity.
